About Us

Founded in 2004, the Opp-Guide’s mission has always been to help youth locate service opportunities that they may find interesting so that they would continue serving their community.  Originally designed as a pamphlet, the Opp-Guide was distributed to guidance counselors, libraries, schools, synagogues, and churches in the South Florida tri-county area.

As the Guide became a 501 (c )(3) tax exempt nonprofit, the Board sought and received grants and other philanthropic organizations which eased our transition from print to an on-line website featuring information in both English and Spanish.

Our Guide is about youth voice.  That’s right.  Our South Florida section contains youth reviews of their volunteer experience so in order to help others find a compatible service activity.  Written specifically by teens for teens, the reviews are honest, occasionally funny, candid, and help fill the missing link between actually enjoying volunteering and only being there for the credit.

We have kept our original index of South Florida community service opportunities for our South Florida friends who specifically want to see what is happening locally.

But now, we are excited to take the Guide to the next level:  branching into a national database (thanks to our friends at All for Good and developing our national App.  Looking to serve this weekend or even today and not near your computer?  No problem!!!! Now, just use your phone or I-Pad to access our database.

We currently have nearly 300,000 organizations that allows high school kids like you to quickly search local results for community service ideas.  Our new motto is “Search it and service it!”
